Wilderness Lakes Bike Trail update.

It connects with the Land O’ Lakes Trail.  Bring your bikes and enjoy a short or a long trip.  For maps and further information, please visit www.wildlakes.org or www.wildernesslakestrails.org. We have beautiful country and wildlife. What better way to enjoy the beautiful Northwoods!  Construction began at the beginning of October, 2011 on a 3.2 mile expansion of the existing 8.5 mile Land O’ Lakes biking and hiking trail system beginning just west of the boat landing off Forest Lake Road and winding through forested private lands connecting to the Thousand Island Lake Road.  Pitlik and Wick, Inc. was awarded the $470,000 construction contract which will include building this 3.2 mile blacktopped trail through the picturesque sugar maple forest.  Most of the construction will be completed yet this fall, and asphalting will take place in the spring and be ready for your enjoyment then.  When completed the Wilderness Lakes Trails project will include a 40-mile trail loop from Land O’ Lakes around the Sylvania Wilderness Area in Watersmeet in the beautiful UP of Michigan  and then returning to Land O’ Lakes through Watersmeet.  Plans for 2012 include development of eight miles of the Agonikak National Recreational Trail which connects Land O’ Lakes to Watersmeet.
